This is a 40. cal small game rifle. I used a blend of influences for inspiration, a little Beck, some Beyer, and some of my own design. It ended up at just over 6lbs.

Germanic Smooth Bore .62
This is a Germanic style smoothbore inspired by a piece made in Suhl 1741. I tried to use various materials to complete it and purchase a little as possible. Only the barrel, lock, and trigger guard aren't hand made. The ram rod pipes and release button are deer antler, elk antler muzzlecap, forged butt plate and side opening wood box as per original. This was a real challenging time consuming effort. As far a I know there isn't many contemporary or original side opening wood boxes. Tell me what you think......

Early Lancaster .58
This summer I had the privilege of examining many original Lancaster long rifles by Haines, Albrecht, Dickert, Henry, the lion Beck and several other makers of the area. One that stuck in my mind was a relatively plain rifle by Andreas Albrecht (1718-1802). He became a gun stocker apprentice at the age of 13, served as a armorer in the first two Silesia wars in Frederick the greats army, (which the third and what was really the first world war is what we call the French and Indian War) arrived in Philadelphia in 1750 and later founded the gun shop in Christian's Spring. I had the inspiration of one of his rifles in my mind, yet mine came out nothing like his. Exactly what I wanted.
